Membership Claims
Brands and retailers that are members of Leather Working Group (LWG) may use the LWG Membership logo. This shows their commitment to sourcing leather from facilities that have been independently audited against LWG’s environmental standards.
It’s important to understand that LWG certification applies to the facility where the leather was made, not to individual products. To help with clear communication, we provide Membership Claims Guidance for all members.
Certification Claims
Facilities audited against LWG Standards are authorised to use a dedicated certification mark (logo) to show their certified status. Each genuine certification mark includes the facility’s unique reference number (URN) and the expiry date.
Each LWG certification mark is specific to the facility that earned it, with a unique reference number and expiry date for transparency and trust. You can find a copy of the guidance and examples of the approved certification marks here.
Misuse of the LWG logo
LWG also reviews how our name, logo, and certifications are used. This helps protect consumers, uphold the integrity of our programme, and ensure that the LWG membership or certification logo remains a trusted sign of leather sourced with care.
Misuse or abuse of LWG Membership Claims or use of its facility certification and/or logo can be reported to membership@leatherworkinggroup.com
