2025 marked a year of significant growth and transformation for Leather Working Group (LWG), as the organisation strengthened its global presence, advanced sustainability standards, and deepened trust across the leather supply chain.

Throughout the year, Leather Working Group made progress in enhancing the integrity and transparency of its programmes. A major milestone was the launch of LWG Assurance Services, a new independent entity established to reinforce the credibility of the auditing process while delivering a more streamlined experience for both tanneries and auditors.

Leather Working Group also celebrated its 20th year of operations and moved closer to the next evolution of its standards framework. Four public consultations were conducted across the year to gather input from stakeholders worldwide. Feedback from these consultations will shape the forthcoming LWG Sustainability System, which is scheduled to launch in 2026 and is expected to set a new benchmark for environmental and social performance in leather manufacturing.

Engagement with the global leather community remained a core priority. Leather Working Group representatives visited tanneries and took part in industry events across multiple regions, ensuring that LWG’s work continues to reflect the practical needs and expectations of leather manufacturers, brands, and suppliers.
