The LWG Chemical Management Module (CMM) is currently a standalone, optional assessment but it will be integrated into the main LWG Environmental Audit Protocol in Version 7.0, to be published later this year.
LWG is currently developing several different technical workstreams in addition to the main protocol uplift. The LWG Technical Sub-Group (TSG) completed some initial work on Protocol 7.0 in 2019 and will continue to refine the protocol document later this year.
The integration of the CMM into the main protocol will be one of the key elements of P7 and will make MRSL-related chemical management questions mandatory. Duplicative CMM questions will be removed and the remainder will be refined to align with the MRSL Version 2.0 for leather.
The CMM questions will be integrated throughout the LWG protocol to align them with the relevant sections. We are also considering adding a new section specifically focused on chemical management and MRSL-related questions.
Despite the ongoing coronavirus situation, we are still able to dedicate resources to protocol development efforts. We still aim to publish P7 before the end of 2020, with a 6-month introductory period before it becomes mandatory for all audits in 2021.
The CMM will still be available as a standalone assessment until P7 is launched.
